What is a bootable Windows USB?

It is the USB which is used for booting the computer and installing Windows or  for any other purpose such as Data recovery or Troubleshooting purpose. All the booting files are stored in the computer so that you can boot the computer from the USB instead of the hard disk.

Remember to change the Boot priority device to USB from your BIOS setting when you are using Bootable Windows USB for installing Windows.

Below are the software which is used for creating a Bootable USB. You need an ISO image file of  the Windows  whose bootable USB you are creating

1. Power ISO

This comes in Free as well as paid version. For us the Free version will work.

  • Open the software. You can download Power ISO from here.
  • Plug the USB in the USB port.
  • Click on “Tools” and then on “Create Bootable USB Drive”.

  • Now you will be asked to run the Power ISO as an administrator.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • Select the source for the Windows ISO file.
  • Select the destination USB drive.

  • Click on “Start” button.
  • You will be notified that all the data in the USB will be overwritten. That means anything in the USB will be deleted.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • Now the process of writing in the USB starts.

  • When the writing process finishes you will get a message as shown below.

 2. Isotousb

Download the software from here.

  • Run the software.
  • Select the bootable ISO image and the destination USB.

  • Click on “Burn”.
  • You will be warned that all the data will be erased.

  • Click on “Yes”.
  • Now the process of creating a bootable USB starts.
  • Once the process finishes you will be notified.

3. Rufus

Download the software from here.

  • Open the software.
  • Under “Device” select your USB.
  • Under Format option you can select “Quick Format”  for formatting the USB quickly for preparing to create a bootable usb.

  • From  “Create a bootable disk” option select “ISO image” and click on the CD drive icon on the right.

  • Now browse and select the Windows ISO image file.

  • Then click on “Open”.
  • Click on “OK”.
  • You will get a warning message then this will delete all the data from USB.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • Now formatting and creation of bootable USB starts.

  • After the process completes click on “Close”.

4. Wintoboot

Download the software from here.

  • Select your USB drive.
  • Put a tick mark on the check box in front of “Quick Format”.
  • Click on “Drop source or click” to select the ISO image.

  • Select the ISO image and click on “Open”.

  • Click on “Do it” button.

  • You will be asked whether you are use.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • Now you will be given a warning message that your USB drive will be erased.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • The process starts.

Click on “Thanks” after the process is complete.

5. WinToFlash

Download the software from here.

  • You are using Free software so you will see ads on this software.
  • Open the software.
  • Select the ISO file and then the destination USB drive.

  • Since you are using the Free software so you will be shown license restriction box.

  • Click on “OK”.
  • Now you will be given a warning message that your data from the USB drive will be erased.

  • You need to accept Windows License Agreement.

  • Now the process of formatting and creating Bootable windows USB starts.

  • After the process is completed you will get a message.

Click on “OK“.
