At certain point of time you may need to clear CMOS settings may be for removing the BIOS password or for removing settings from the BIOS due to compatibility issues.

There are two ways by which you can remove the CMOS settings.

One way is to remove the battery from the motherboard and leave for about 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

The next thing is you can use jumper for resetting the CMOS. Below is the picture of the jumper.

cmos3Now different motherboards have different settings. In some motherboard you have jumpers close to the battery and in some motherboards jumpers are in different positions. In any case you can see “CLR_CMOS” written near to the jumper which clears CMOS setting.

Sometimes jumpers are already fitted to the pins on the motherboard. You just need to remove the jumper to clear CMOS. In some case you will not find jumper installed to the pin. You need to insert the jumper to the pin which clears the CMOS settings. In some cases you will find three pins to clear CMOS setting. The jumper might be inserted to pin 1 and 2. You need to insert to 2 and 3. In this way you can clear CMOS settings.

cmosIn the above figure the jumper has three pins. So if it is inserted to 1 and 2. You can insert it to 2 and 3.
