Computer power is turned on but there is not display
Let me give you a scenario. You turned on a computer. The power supply is on, you can hear the fan moving and you can see the led light on the CPU or laptop glowing but you can’t see any display on the monitor. You may be wondering what has happened.
There are few things you can do in order to solve this computer display problem.
First you want to make sure that you have properly connected your monitor to the CPU if it is a desktop and the monitor has been connected with an external power supply if it requires.
The next thing you can do is shut down the system and again restart it. You can open the case of the desktop CPU and you try to hear if there is any beep sound when you restart again. If your computer starts again without any beeping sound or it beeps for a long time then it is the problem of the memory. I had a similar scenario where my CPU didn’t give any beeping sound. If you more than one memory installed, remove all the memory and install one by one. When you install one start the system and go on like that you will be able to identify the faulty memory and your system should work fine.
If you hear the short beep sound and still if the display is not there the next thing you can check is the monitor itself. Connect the computer to a second monitor and on it. If there is display in the second monitor it is the problem of the previous monitor.
The final step is you checked the cables, the RAM is fine, the monitor is fine then the last thing is may be the Video card attached to the board is faulty.
In this case you can buy a new graphic card and install it in your system. Your motherboard has one or more than one PCI express slot where you can install a new graphic card. Use the PCI slot as per requirement of the Graphic card.
Graphic card can be of many types. One which is simple and doesn’t require any power supply and the other one is powerful generally used for 2D, 3D gaming purpose and requires an external PCI power supply. Check your system and install the graphic card. Also the monitor cable connector to the graphic card can be of two types VGA and DVI
Note:- If your monitor doesn’t have DVI connector then your Graphic card may come with the VGA to DVI connector
VGA to DVI connector
So ,check the system and buy graphic card according to your system. After that connect the Screen cable to the VGA card which you just installed and run the system.
The first thing you need after installing the external Video Graphic card is to disable the on board video card i.e the video card integrated to the mother board.
Connect the monitor to the VGA connector of the integrated graphic card situated behind the CPU. Run the system.
Right click on “My computer” icon on the desktop and click on “Properties”
Now from the left side click on “Device manager” and expand “Display adapters” and you will be able to see the two Graphic card names one is on board and the other one is just installed.
Right click on the Display adapter which you want to disable and click on “Disable” from the menu.
Now you remove the VGA connector and connect your monitor to the DVI or either VGA connector of the new graphic card and restart the sytem.
Install the driver software from the CD which comes along with the Graphic card. Now your VGA card works fine.
