Do you know that you can access your gmail in outlook express. Once you receive it you can view it offline. You can either use POP3 or IMAP for downloading message from gmail account to Microsoft Outlook.

IMAP is more better than POP3 as it allows easy access from all the devices for checking your email. It provides two way communication between web gmail and mail clients like Microsoft Oulook.

What’s the process

  • First login into your gmail account from the web browsers like firefox or gmail.
  • Affter loggin in Click on the” settings” icon  on the right corner.
  • Now click on “settings” from the list.


  • Click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP“.
  • Select “Enable IMAP” under “Status:IMAP is enabled


  • Click on “Save Changes.”

Now open Microsoft Outlook.

If you are using older version of Microsoft Outlook you can do the following steps.

Click on “Tools” and “Account Settings“.

The following dialog box will appear.


  • Click on “New”.
  • Select “Microsoft  Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP“.
  • Then you will get “Account” dialog box.


Fill in the details and click on “Next”.

Microsoft outlook will automatically configure your settings.


Once the setting is configured automatically, click on “Finish”

Now you can see a test message send to your gmail address and the emails which you had previously received in your address.

In Microsoft Outlook 2013

Click on “File“.


Click on “Add Account.”.

Then the rest of the process is same as above.

HELP! Automatically configuring setting doesn’t work for gmail account

Click on “Tools” and “Account Settings“.

The following dialog box will appear.


  • Click on “New”.
  • Select “Microsoft  Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP” and then click on “Next“.
  • Then you will get “Account” dialog box.


After filling up the details.

Click on “Manual setup or additional server types” and click on “Next“.

Select “Internet E-mail” from the following dialog box.


Click on “Next“.


Fill up the details as per necessary

Your Name:- Your name

E-mail Address:- The gmail address which you want to configure.

Server Information

Account Type:- IMAP

Incoming Mail Server:- Type “imap.gmail.com

Outgoing mail server:- Type “smtp.gmail.com”

Username:- Your gmail address

Password:- Your gmail address.

Then click on “More settings”


Click on “Outgoing Server” tab and tick on “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.”



  • Click on “”Advanced” tab.



  • Fill in the above details
  • Incoming port server 993, security type is SSL, Outgoing sever port 465 or 587, security type SSL and click on “OK“.
  • Click on “Test Account Setting” button.

Now your account will be tested and if it successful then you will get the following message.


Click on “Next” and “Finish”.
